Solar Thermal Electric Power Systems
Solar Thermal Electric Power Systems are based on linear parabolic mirrors to concentrate sunlight upon a receiver running along the focal line of the collector tubes which have specific oils inside. Each mirror is able to heat the oil to almost 750 degrees Fahrenheit. The heated oil circulates through a heat exchanger. The last stage is similar to a conventional steam turbine generator.Consequently solar to electrical energy conversion process is madden in an indirect way. Advantages in efficiencies and costs make this system preferable. Instead of local applications, large scale plant are needed for this system. As an alternative Solar thermal Towers are also feasible applications. All mirrors in the field is focused on a point on the tower. Since direction of solar radiation is changing continuously, solar tracking is needed for each mirror. Since each mirror has a specific angle, monitoring systems gain high importance.
