ODTÜ-GÜNAM received plaque by the YEVDES Project

ODTÜ-GÜNAM President, Tayfun HIZ, received the plaque presented by Mustafa Çalışkan, Head of Renewable Energy Resources Department of the General Directorate of Energy Affairs, for our contributions to the YEVDES Project, which is being carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources with E.U. funding.

Within the scope of the project, we hosted nearly 100 researchers, scientists, academicians, and students at ODTÜ-GÜNAM, and inform them about our activities and facilities.

GÜNAM Researchers’ Article in Renewable Energy

The article titled “Simplified process flow for the fabrication of PERC solar cells with ion implanted emitter” has been published in Renewable Energy by the ODTÜ-GÜNAM Silicon PV division led by Prof. Dr. Rasit Turan.

The authors of the article demonstrated a simplified process flow for the fabrication of ion implanted PERC cells having Al2O3SiNx; stack passivation at the textured rear surface without any rear side processing, leading to a power conversion the efficiency of 20% at large area. The results of the present research will provide a basis for high efficiency implanted PERC cells with significantly reduced workload and cost.

We congratulate the lead author Gence Bektaş,  his 8 co-authors of the article, and all the ODTÜ-GÜNAM members for their contributions.

GÜNAM Researchers’ Article in Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells

The article titled “Spreading resistance modeling for rapid extraction of contact resistivity with a four-point probe” has been published in Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells.

The contact resistivity has been one of the main parameters limiting the performance of silicon solar cells with intricate experimental and numerical procedures used for its extraction so far. ODTÜ GÜNAM researchers had come up with a simple way of obtaining the contact resistivity between different materials using four-point probe measurements. The methodology presented in this work is expected to simplify these procedures considerably and accelerate the research and development of new generations of Si solar cells.

We congratulate Deniz Turkay, Konstantin Tsoi, Ergi Donercark, Prof. Rasit Turan, and Assoc. Prof. Selcuk Yerci for their contributions.

Researchers in Spain and Turkey aim at 22%-efficient UMG solar cell

The Cheer-Up project aims to enhance the performance of “Upgraded Metallurgical-Grade (UMG)” silicon for multi-crystalline solar cells and demonstrate it is a competitive alternative to polysilicon by achieving similar efficiencies at lower cost and with less environmental impact. Researchers also want to demonstrate UMG can be used to manufacture the most advanced cell structures.

Part of the European Solar-Era.Net energy technology R&D network, the project is a collaboration between the Madrid-based Instituto de Energía Solar (IES-UPM), Spanish solar company Aurinka PV, the Nanophotonics Technology Center in Valencia and Turkey’s Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications (GÜNAM), in Ankara.

GÜNAM Researcher’s Article in Advanced Functional Materials

The article titled “A Thienothiophene-Based Cation Treatment Allows Semitransparent Perovskite Solar Cells with Improved Efficiency and Stability” has been published in Advanced Functional Materials by the ODTÜ GÜNAM Emerging PV division lead by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selcuk Yerci and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gorkem Gunbas.

M.Sc. student Ummugulsun Gunes, the first author of the article, stated that within the scope of the study, increased efficiency and stability of opaque and semitransparent perovskite solar cells were achieved using novel ammonium salt (TTMAI) at a surface treatment agent. Over 20% efficiency for opaque and a remarkable 17.9% PCE for semi-transparent cells were achieved in addition to promising stability over 1000h.

We congratulate the first author of the article Ummugulsum Gunes and contributing 9 authors, all ODTÜ GÜNAM members.
